RE: Kansas Department of Health and Environment Vaccine Recommendations

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) continues to review and assess the modified childhood vaccine schedule released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Jan. 5, 2026, and how it could impact the health of Kansas children. At this time, we do not anticipate changes to Kansas' clinical guidance regarding childhood immunization schedules. KDHE is committed to the well-being of Kansans, and we continue to emphasize the importance of clear communication, transparency and trust in scientific evidence.

Vaccines remain one of the most effective tools for preventing serious infectious diseases, and decades of rigorous studies have shown they are safe and effective.

It is important that we rely on evidence-based sources when addressing any changes or updates to the longstanding vaccine recommendations that have protected and continue to protect the health of children. It is also important to stress that childhood immunization schedules are intended to support, not require or mandate, evidence-informed, clinical decision-making and consistency in medical practice.

We remain committed to supporting clinical guidance and recommendations that provide the most accurate, credible and transparent information available for health professionals and Kansas families.

KDHE is recommending that Kansas clinicians continue to rely on their clinical training and professional judgment, as well as following the childhood and adolescent immunization schedules published by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Family Physicians as they navigate shared decision-making with parents, caregivers and patients. Links to these recommended vaccination schedules are available through the KDHE Immunization Page.
