USD 309 Position 6 Write-In Tie Broken; Seat to Become Vacant Due to Residency Issue

The Reno County Board of Canvassers convened Monday afternoon, November 17, 2025, at the Reno County Annex to break a nine-way tie among write-in candidates for USD 309 Board of Education Position 6. In accordance with tie-breaking procedures, the Board conducted a name drawing, and Diana Bruce was selected and certified as the winner.

Following certification, it was determined that Diana Bruce resides outside the required district for Position 6. Because residency within District 3-6 is required to serve in this seat, Diana Bruce is not eligible to assume the position.

As a result, the Position 6 seat will become vacant in January, when the new term is scheduled to begin. The responsibility for filling the vacancy rests with the USD 309 Board of Education, which will appoint an eligible individual to serve until November 2027, when the position will be placed on the ballot as an unexpired term.
