Retirement Recognition for Kevin Kienzle
Kevin Kienzle has retired after 12 years of dedicated service in the Reno County Public Transportation Department.  His contributions as a driver, dispatcher, and supervisor have significantly impacted the community, and he will be missed. Kevin was given a plaque during the meeting and a retirement party was held in his honor Wednesday at the Rcat Facility conference room. 

Proclamation for National Police Week 
The Board of County Commissioners proclaimed May 11th-17th, 2025, as National Police Week to honor law enforcement officers.  This week includes May 15th, designated as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day, to remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Sheriff Darrian Campbell invited commissioners and the public to join them at 11 am on Friday, May 16th, in the front of the Law Enforcement Center,  210 W. First Ave. for the Observance of National Peace Officers Memorial Day ceremony. This event is a special tribute to honor Law Enforcement and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving Reno County and abroad. The ceremony is hosted by the Reno County Sheriff's Office and the Hutchinson Police Department. Over 26,000 law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty since 1776, and in 2025, 148 officers have already made the ultimate sacrifice.

Solar Regulations Discussion in Unzoned Areas 
The Commissioners have previously completed the solar regulations for the zoned portion of Reno County. The unzoned portion is under a moratorium which is scheduled to expire at the end of the month. The Commissioners voted to leave the unzoned portion of Reno County without any regulations on solar development.


2026 Budget Requests

Reno County Fair Board President Clint Lanning and Jill Jones, Treasurer, spoke to commissioners about their request of $20,000 for the 2026 fiscal year to support Reno County Fair activities, including building rentals at the Kansas State Fair and  the cost of qualified judges. Clint also talked about the new events that will be at this year's county fair as they are working to enhance community participation and improve overall fair experience. Dave Johnston, EMS Chief at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, presented the EMS budget request of $1,839,504, representing a slight decrease of 2.3% from the previous year. In Johnston's report were a budget request for HRMC to continue providing EMS services for Reno County, accompanied by an examination of the financial records from the past three years. 

Bronwyn Page, Director of Operations at the Reno County Museum, with Chief Curator Riah Morgan, presented the funding request for the museum Wednesday. The request for 2026 is $200,000, an increase from $140,000 in 2025. Bronwyn spoke about the museum's recent efforts that have increased annual revenue by approximately $30,000 through fundraising initiatives. Bronwyn invited commissioners and the public to view the museum's new exhibit, "I Walked into a Different World" The Vietnam Era Remembered. 

Financial Report Overview for FY24
Randy Partington, County Administrator, gave the financial report for FY24 which presented an unaudited overview of the county's budget, detailing revenues and expenses across various funds. It highlighted significant variances in revenue collection and expenditure management as of April 16, 2025.
