Reno County Fire District #1 Station #31 Celebrates with Open House & Uncoupling Ceremony
Reno County Fire District #1 proudly celebrated the completion of the new Station #31 in Nickerson with an Open House and traditional uncoupling ceremony on Saturday, February 28. The new station is fully operational and serving the community.
Residents were invited to tour the facility, meet local fire personnel, and enjoy fellowship over potato soup, garlic bread, and dessert. The event provided an opportunity for the public to see firsthand the improvements that will support fire protection and emergency response efforts in the Nickerson area for years to come.
Fire Chief Gerry Wiens shared his excitement about the new building, noting that the department has long awaited a facility designed to better meet its needs. The spacious layout allows for easier movement around apparatus, improved safety, and adequate room to house equipment without the limitations of the previous station.
Commissioner Randy Parks thanked the community, county staff, volunteers, and Emergency Management Director Adam Weishaar and his team for their dedication throughout the planning and construction process. He acknowledged the many meetings, coordination efforts, and hours of work that made the project possible, emphasizing the strong community support behind the new station.
The new Station #31 represents a significant investment in public safety and reflects the commitment of Reno County, its fire personnel, and volunteers to protect lives and property. The ceremony also recognized the firefighters who were unable to attend because they were actively responding to a nearby grassfire - a reminder of the vital service they provide every day.
Reno County extends its gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this project a reality and to the community members who came out to celebrate this important milestone.
