Roundup of items during commission meeting including recognition of Hutchinson Community College NJCAA D1 Championship Football team

Here is a round up of the items on the Reno County Commission agenda from February 26, 2025.
- A proclamation was read stating that February 26, 2025, is Team Appreciation Day for the Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragons who won the 2024 NJCAA D1 National Championship, their second championship win. Members of the HCC Football staff and team and HCC's president Trish Paramore were photographed with commissioners. Coach Drew Dallas, who was named the American Community College Football Coaches' Association Coach of the Year, spoke to commissioners after the proclamation was read.
- Strataca's Director Rachel Terry asked commissioners for support to apply for affiliation with the Smithsonian. The commissioners agreed and gave her a letter of support.
- Jackson Swearer, Entrepreneur Navigator and Director at StartUp Hutch, talks to commissioners about the five year action plan for the Reno County Entrepreneur Ecosystem Partnership.
- Megan Bottenberg, Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs, Kansas, Cox Communications, updated the commissioners on Cox Communication's commitment to Reno County Wednesday.
- Reno Count Appraiser Michael Plank talks about 2025 Valuations to commissioners Wednesday. Plank talked about the valuations that will be mailed on Friday and posted on the Reno County website on Monday. He also let the commissioners know about the Coffee With The Appraiser event at 8:30 am on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025, at the Reno County Annex at 125 W. First Avenue.
- Reno County Counselor Patrick Hoffman spoke with commissioners on the business item stating the need to extend the Solar Moratorium. Reno County Public Works Director Don Brittain told commissioners that the Planning and Zoning Commission has sent the regulations to the commissioners and the extension is for county commissioners. A study session has been set for Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 5 pm at the Reno County Annex, 125 W. First Avenue. The commission voted to extend the solar moratorium until May 1, 2025.
- Reno County Commissioners Ron Vincent requested to move item 6.C item on the Consent Agenda to Business Items since he had come questions about the memorandum of Understanding with Prairie Dunes per USGA 2029 U.S. Senior Men's Open. LeAnn Cox, Vice President of Operations and Tourism at Visit Hutch, answered questions about the economic impact of the golf championship to Reno County.
- Reno County Administrator Randy Partington announced that there will be an information session about housing incentives offered by Reno County on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 10 am in the South Hutchinson Community Center, . It is a public meeting and all cities in Reno County are invited to send their clerk's office staff, economic development professionals, city staff and mayors to the meeting.
- Reno County Commissioner Ron Hirst commended the new free Local Food Guide featuring local producers, sponsored by K-State Research and Extension Reno County.
