Health Department Food Drive Shares Holiday Meals with Maternal Child Health Families
12/23/2025 1:48:00 PM

Reno County Health Department staff hosted a special food drive for some of our Maternal Child Health (MCH) clients, turning generosity into Christmas food baskets designed to help families gather around the table with a little less stress and a lot more joy.
The staff were able to provide 17 MCH families with food baskets that consisted of 1 turkey, 1 Jackson's Meat gift card, canned vegetables, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, snack cakes/cookies, summer sausage, block of cheese, 1 bottle of sparkling cider, 1 popcorn tin, and dinner rolls, all the ingredients for a warm holiday meal and meaningful memories. This year's food drive was made possible by generous food and monetary donations from Health Department staff. Tyson's in South Hutchinson helped provide 12 of the 17 turkeys.
Maternal Child Health (MCH) provides vital support to families before and after delivery, working to ensure both mom and baby are healthy and supported. Our team offers prenatal visits throughout pregnancy and continues with home visits for babies for up to a year after birth. Thanks to grant funding, pregnant women in our community have access to equitable, compassionate care when it matters most.
We also proudly support the Women, Infants, & Children (WIC) program, which provides food benefits to pregnant, post-partum, and breastfeeding women. Research consistently shows that participation in WIC leads to healthier pregnancies and stronger beginnings for babies.
This food drive was more than a meal — it was a reminder that when we care for families, we strengthen our entire community.
