HEALTH ALERT Issued Following Recent Spike in Overdoses

HEALTH ALERT: Three Reno County overdoses in 24 hours on May 12th

May 14, 2026 - The purpose of this Health Alert is to inform the community about a recent unusual spike in overdoses in Reno County. Three overdoses were reported within a 24-hour period on May 12, 2026. The overdoses are suspected to involve primarily methamphetamine. 

The Reno County Health Department has tracked overdoses and related trends since Oct. 1, 2020. Methamphetamine is an illegal stimulant that can cause a host of adverse health outcomes. While naloxone (Narcan) is not effective in reversing stimulant overdoses, the Reno County Health Department still strongly encourages individuals to carry naloxone and learn how to use it due to the unsafe and toxic drug supply that includes the presence of fentanyl and the suspicion of xylazine. • Encourage more people to carry naloxone (Narcan) 

• Encourage members of our community who use substances to never use alone
