Free Community Baby Shower Connects New and Expecting Parents with Local Resources

New and expecting parents gathered May 20 for the Reno County Community Baby Shower at 200 East Sherman Street in Hutchinson, where families had the opportunity to connect with local resources, receive education and enjoy community support in a welcoming environment.
The free come-and-go event focused on helping parents build healthy and safe starts for their babies through education, support services and hands-on resources.
Attendees learned about:
- Safe sleep techniques for infants
- Breastfeeding support and resources
- Self-care and mental health connections
- Smoking cessation information
- Community programs available for families
A Spanish interpreter was available on-site to assist families throughout the evening, and light refreshments and giveaways were provided.
The event also helped meet critical needs for local families. Safety-approved sleep environments, including Pack and Plays, were distributed to families in need.
Community participation was strong throughout the evening:
- 44 mothers attended the baby shower
- 60 support persons attended alongside parents
- 42 of the 44 mothers completed all required educational stops
- 27 agencies and businesses participated
- 38 Pack and Plays were distributed
- 57 volunteers and staff assisted with booths, demonstrations, translation, testing and event support
Organizers said the event highlighted the importance of connecting families with local resources and creating strong support systems for parents and infants throughout Reno County.
