Sharing Ideas At Local Food Summit To Improve Overall Health of Our Community
Local community members explored actionable steps to address food insecurity in Reno County Wednesday evening, April 9, 2025, as they listened to speakers from the Kansas Food Action Network, Reno County Food Advisory Council and the Reno County Health Department.
"Food is essential to our health, well-being, and quality of life, yet access to nutritious, affordable food remains a challenge for many individuals and families in Reno County," said Kara Bunce, Reno County Health Dept. Educator, on behalf of the Reno County Food Advisory Council.
"Over the past several months, the Reno County Food Advisory Council, alongside community partners, and stakeholders, has been working diligently to better understand the food system in our region and identify barriers to food security.
Our efforts began with the Reno County Food Assessment, which aimed to collect data, amplify community voices, and evaluate existing resources. This comprehensive assessment has provided invaluable insights into the state of food access in our community, revealing both opportunities for growth and pressing needs that must be addressed.
Throughout this process, we have been inspired by the dedication of local organizations, advocates, and changemakers who share a common goal, ensuring that every member of Reno County has access to healthy nourishing food. The findings from the Food Assessment have guided us in developing actionable steps to address food insecurity, and improve the overall health of our community.
The Reno County Local Food Summit marks an important milestone in this work. This event was an opportunity to share what we’ve learned, celebrate the progress we’ve made, and continue to have you be a part of the ongoing conversation about ensuring fair access to healthy, affordable food for everyone in our community."
